Then to my suprise I received the confirmation e-mail and guess what was written in the e-mail?

Ready for the forced, uncomfortable "confirmation link" that you have to click 
before we can start to get to know each other a little better?

Don't worry, we feel just as uncomfortable asking you to click a link that looks 
like it'll take you to a Nigerian scam website! But alas, our contacts in Africa 
are minimal and instead you'll be taken to a page on our site where you can 
download......

Notice how I underlined and made the Nigerian scam website bold? Yeah…that’s right, I’m sick and tired of the way people attack and talk about Nigerians everywhere! Now as a reader of my blog post, you may argue that this is not racist. Racism is not only when you deny someone or treat someone in a particular way because they are from a particular race or tribe,what most people don’t realize is that it is equally as hurting and as devastating as when you’re being accidentally racist or being racially insensitive.

Now, I’m not saying the author of this blog mentioned above is racist, (the blog is run by a couple and they are Americans), but whichever of them wrote that newsletter or confirmation e-mail is certainly racially insensitive…..they are the kind of people whom when you meet them somewhere…. they warm up to you, but as soon as you mention you’re a Nigerian or from an African country for that matter, the atmosphere suddenly changes and they become very umcomfortable and they start grabbing their purse or their children……etc etc etc.

Per adventure you’re one of those people that think that was an harmless e-mail or that racism doesn’t exist, then you’re delusional. Racism exists all right…and it has become a menace in our society which comes in different forms, shapes and colours. I paused to ask myself as I saw that e-mail: why are people so insensitive? Have they actually had any real encounter with a Nigerian? or is it the politically incorrect day to day bullshit we see in the media? Why can’t we all strive to make a difference? Is it a curse to be born Nigerian? Do Nigerians have to carry this shame and be stigmatized for the rest of their lives?

Now, I’m not saying this only exists in America, I’ve travelled far and wide and I know this is a deadly virus that is no respecter of anybody. In fact you can be black and still be racist or racially insensitive, contrary to people’s general opinion.

Another point worth mentioning is that I’ve been in the US for quite a while, and I’ve been scammed,duped and experienced scams and other criminal activities that I may not be able to mention here….the point I’m trying to make is there are scammers everywhere, people with criminal minds are in every country all over the internet.Now does this mean I should regard every American I meet as a fraudster? Does it make sense to use this in a generic statement?

I sent an e-mail to the owners of that site, and I’m curious as to how they’ll defend themselves or rationalize that e-mail, I’ll publish this tomorrow (if they ever respond)….what are your views on this?

Recently, in response to a comment I made about the calories in fruit juice, a friend said to me that fruit juice is "evil." I am a philosopher who does a lot of ethics. So "evil" means something quite severe to me. Hitler and Pol Pot were evil.  Fruit juice, not so much.

I checked back with my friend. No, he didn't mean it was literally evil.

Tasty wheat bread with subtle flavors of coffee and chocolate goes well with both savory and sweet accompaniments.

While the all-purpose flour stores in our pantry are diminishing, we still have an abundance of wheat flour. The exceptional wheat bread we made earlier this year was fabulous, but it is time and labor intensive. This weekend called for a loaf with more "auto-pilot" in the directions - and more of the work being done by our trusty Zojirushi bread machine.
